One Way
Satellite Internet VOIP (Sat-Push)
PUSH System serves for downloading
e-mails from remote POP3 servers and
their instant automatic transmission via
a one-way link via an UDP/ip interface.
-
PUSH e-mail System brings to
end-users significant increase in
comfort as incoming e-mails are
received automatically without any
intervention from an user side at
significantly higher speeds of DVB
link comparing to ordinary dial-up
(up to 20 Mbit/s to end-user).
-
From an economic point of view it
eliminates PTT dial-up fees for
connections required just for
sending acknowledgment for received
e-mails and checking inbox for
incoming e-mails.
-
This for example eliminates worries
of end-users to have e-mail box
frozen due to some huge e-mail being
received (for example 8 Mbyte of
data with 2-3 failures during
download can cause unpleasant delay
in receiving the rest of e-mails).
-
It is an attractive add-on mainly to
Asymmetric Broadband Internet
Systems (satellite, terrestrial or
cable).
-
PUSH e-mail System enables users to
fully benefit from broadband one-way
link they have investmented into.
-
PUSH e-mail System can be used in
conjunction with any third party
DVB/ip GW (IP encapsulator) with MPE
encapsulation.
ad 2) Reliability of e-mail delivery
involves two techniques:
a)
FEC [Forward error correction]
Data is sent with redundant data
enabling recovery of lost or corrupted
information. The power FEC can be chosen
by system operator.
b) Synchronization
E-mails are stored in central server
until they are not confirmed as
correctly delivered to end-user POP3
server. In case that e-mails are not
positively confirmed they are
automatically re-broadcasted to the user.
ad 3) Avoid unauthorized access to
private data (hybrid RSA and DES
encryption)
DVB MPE encapsulation calculates MAC
address from an end-user legal IP
address, so packets are delivered only
to a given end-user. Anyway there are
risks that hackers could get this
traffic from the air at PC DVB board
level or before TCP/ip stack.
In order to assure protection against
these risks private data contained in
e-mails during on air transmission are
encrypted.
PUSH e-mail System uses hybrid RSA
(asymmetric encryption - slow & highly
secure) with DES (symmetric quick - less
secure) in order to reach optimum
balance between high performance and
high security of encryption. In a PUSH
e-mail System e-mails are encrypted by
DES while a key for DES are encrypted by
RSA. The most sensitive part of DES key
is handled by highly secure RSA
algorithm.
In this case end-user provides to
broadcast center his public key which
can be used for encrypting data, while
decryption is only possible by using
private key which is kept locally by
the end-user.
Thus even when e-mails would be received
from the satellite transmission by
an unauthorized user, they could not
read by him.
